A couple weeks ago my mother told me that Junot Diaz, THE Junot Diaz, resides in a quiet neighborhood behind the spin studio I go to in Cambridge. I don’t know how she knows this, or how the person who told her knows this. But, I’m taking said person as a credible source (because This Is How You Lose Her).
So, for the last two weeks I’ve been on high alert. I’m in Harvard Square almost every day of my life to take the T before work. It only makes sense that we would cross paths. We’re meant to cross paths.
Well, I think we did. And it could have been magical except I totally blew it. I was walking out of Verizon Wireless as he walked in. I held the door and he said thanks and I kept watching him walk towards customer service. And I stood there for an addition three minutes having internal dialogue about whether or not it was in fact JD and maybe I should just go in and ask and maybe you shouldn’t because you just left the gym and kind of smell. So I ended up turning around to buy a sandwich at Crema.
What I’m trying to say is I should have just asked him if it was him. I should have said hi. And I’d like a second chance. So if any of you can forward this along to JD and ask him if maybe he was walking into a Verizon Wireless store in Harvard Square on Monday afternoon, that would be great. And then tell him that this girl held the door for him and wanted to say hi. I like your books.
